The breakout timing pyramid for better quality trades

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.

It’s a truly impressive structure, and at an initial height of 146.5 metres (481 feet) was the tallest man-made structure in the world for almost 4000 years.

It’s estimated the pyramid consists of over 2.3 million stone blocks, with some blocks weighing over 50 tons – that’s more than 3 school buses!

It’s incredible they were able to move these huge stone blocks into place without the modern construction machinery we have today, but what’s also impressive about the pyramids is their precision and alignment.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was built to face true north and even though it was built 1000’s of years ago, is still the most accurately aligned structure (to true north) of any in the world, even though the North Pole has been shifting over time.

And studies have shown incredible accuracy and precision in many other aspects of pyramid construction, sometimes to just 1/2 millimetre (1/50 of an inch).

A few days ago, in a blog post on the BetterTraderAcademy.com website, breakout trading specialist Tomas Nesnidal shared his ‘breakout timing pyramid’ which contains 4 separate levels you can use to increase the ‘precision and alignment’ of a breakout trading strategy to reduce the #1 problem for breakout traders (according to a survey of 398 traders we carried out a few months ago).

So, what’s the number 1 challenge for breakout traders today?

False breakouts.

False breakout can cause alot of frustration and pain for breakout traders, and a common approach to reducing them is to try optimising them out of a strategy…

But this can easily lead to over-optimisation and curve fitting and often doesn’t solve the problem anyway.

Unfortunately, false breakouts are an uncomfortable aspect of breakout trading and we can’t get rid of them completely, but there are some robust techniques you can use to improve the quality of your breakout strategies and reduce the number of false breakouts, sometimes dramatically.

So, what’s the solution to reducing nasty false breakouts?

The ‘breakout timing pyramid’ explains the 4 levels where breakout timing can be improved to reduce false breakouts, they are:

The ‘4 levels to smash false breakouts‘ blog post goes onto explain each of the levels in more detail, and how Tomas has built 12 simple but powerful techniques that align with these 4 levels to smash through false breakouts fast.

So, if you’re sick of paying for so many false breakouts and would like to know how to access the 12 false breakout smashing techniques Tomas uses, take a look at the blog post here.

Cheers,
Andrew.
